Purvis' twin brothers Jacob and Jojo Parker were both named Class 4A's Mr. Baseball.
The duo are both signed to play at Mississippi State next season, and are both projected to be selected in the upcoming MLB Draft.
"We've had some really good ones come through over the years," Purvis baseball coach Tony Farlow said. "They are as good as they get. They both have different qualities they bring to the team, but offensively, they are rock solid. The power and speed they bring when they steal and hit balls out have been impressive for the last few years."
For Jojo, it's the second time he has earned the honor after he was named it back in 2023. This past year, he has posted a .500 batting average, driven in 26 runs, and hit eight doubles and nine home runs. He has also only struck out three times at the plate, drawn 36 walks and also stolen 28 bases this season. On the mound, Jojo holds a 3.29 ERA, struck out 50 batters and walked six in 34 innings of work.
"He's been solid for us for a third year in a row on the mound," Farlow said. "He's been solid for us on the mound, but we are a better team, too, because he's at shortstop.
"All year he has been willing to take the walks. People pitch around him, and for the most part, he hasn't swung at bad pitches. There's a pretty good chance that if he gets to first base, you'll get a run out of that inning. Then, the next thing you know, he hits a home run or a grand slam. He brings everything to the table."
Jacob has recorded a .481 average, 38 RBI, eight doubles, nine home runs and 26 stolen bases. As a pitcher, he has recorded a 3.96 ERA, struck out 36 batters and walked 24.
"Jacob has been so impressive with his power," Farlow said. "He just hits the ball so hard. Defensively, I wouldn't want to try and get in front of one of the balls he hits and try to catch it. He brings so much power to the lineup. He's like Jojo; if he gets on base, he's a threat to steal second and third base.
One of the things that gets lost in the shuffle with Jacob since he started for us in eighth grade is that he is solid in the outfield. He's made some fabulous running catches. I don't remember him missing a ball, and then he's got the arm to throw people out."
Purvis will face Greene County in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.
