Pearl River volleyball standout Avery Wheat (Gonzales, La.; East Ascension) proved to be an offensive force all week long, and on Tuesday she was recognized as the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
With Wheat's honor, the Wildcats completed a sweep of the league's weekly awards, as Morgan Mears (Hurley; East Central) was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
Wheat opened the week in dominant fashion, hammering down 21 kills in a 3-1 rivalry victory over Gulf Coast while also contributing two service aces, 15 digs, and a block. She followed that up with 15 kills in a hard-fought matchup against Jones College. Over the weekend at the Lurleen B. Wallace Tournament in Enterprise, Ala., Wheat turned in an incredible 55 kills across four matches, highlighted by 19 against Bevill State. She added seven service aces and 47 digs during the tournament run.
Through just 14 matches this season, the Louisiana native has been a consistent leader for PRCC, amassing 189 kills, 17 aces, 117 digs, and 23 blocks.
