Fresh off one of the most thrilling wins in recent memory, the Pearl River football team looks to carry its momentum into South Division play Thursday when the Wildcats travel to Summit to face Southwest.
PRCC enters the matchup riding momentum from a thrilling 48-42 victory over Itawamba, capped by an 88-yard go-ahead touchdown strike in the final minute.
ABOUT PEARL RIVER
The Wildcats' offense has been rejuvenated in 2025 behind quarterback Reese Mooney (Clinton; Denham Springs). Through two games, Mooney has completed 33-of-56 passes for 545 yards and five touchdowns. His 545 yards rank second in the MACCC, and his five scores are tied for first.
Kedrick Triplett (Florence, Ala.), the reigning MACCC Offensive Player of the Week, has been Mooney's top target. Triplett has hauled in 11 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns, averaging a remarkable 26.9 yards per catch. He leads the MACCC in both receiving yards and touchdowns, ranking second nationally in each category.
Howard Kinchen (Lafayette, La.; Patterson) has also been a key weapon in the passing game, recording 10 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown.
On the ground, Keenan Franks (State Line; Greene County) leads the Wildcats with 137 yards on 21 carries. He's coming off a career performance against Itawamba, rushing for 110 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively, Garrett Orgas (Vicksburg; Warren Central) and Amarion Tyson (Picayune) share the team lead with 19 tackles apiece. Jalen Anderson (Slidell, La.) has been disruptive up front, ranking second on the team in total tackles while pacing the defense with 5.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Special teams standout Cory Jackson (Petal) earned MACCC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after returning three kicks for 124 yards against Itawamba, including a 90-yard touchdown. On the year, he's averaging 31.7 yards per return.
ABOUT SOUTHWEST
The Bears opened the season with a win over Holmes before dropping a 35-21 contest to Northeast. Southwest has rotated two quarterbacks early this season. Charlie Fair has completed 16-of-39 passes for 177 yards and one touchdown, while Silas Corder is 13-of-26 for 186 yards and one score.
On the ground, Chris Hunter leads the rushing attack with 206 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries. Jalen Williams has added 150 yards and one touchdown on 29 carries of his own. Williams is also the team's top receiver with 74 yards and two touchdowns. Tahj Williby ranks second with 52 receiving yards.
Defensively, BJ Mitchell paces the Bears with 17 tackles, followed by Jordan Magee with 14. As a team, Southwest has recorded nine tackles for loss but has yet to force a turnover.
SERIES HISTORY
Pearl River holds a commanding 65-16-3 advantage in the all-time series. The Wildcats took last year's meeting 27-17.
