Allen “Big Al” Flynt, 70, of Petal, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Forrest General Hospital. Burial is in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mr. Flynt was a member of Petal Harvey Baptist Church. From 1966 – 1980 he worked at Sellers & Associates Consulting Engineers in Hattiesburg. He was self-employed since October 22, 1980 and was the owner and operator of Flynt & Associates, PLLC, A & R Flynt Properties, LLC, and A & R Flynt Development, Inc. He was the past president of the Petal Rotary Club in 1991 and an active member since 1989, the past president of the Petal Chamber of Commerce in 1992 and board member from 1989 – 1999, and the past president of the Mississippi Association of Professional Surveyors in 1993 and an active member since 1976. He was a board member on the Area Development Council, a founding member of Petal Area Economic Development Partnership, Associate Board Member of Bancorp South in Petal, a member of the National Association of Home Builders, a member of Mississippi Forestry Association, and a member of the Mississippi Economic Council. In 1997 he received the Bobby Runnels Leardership Award and the Mississippi Economic Development Council Volunteer of the Year. From 2002 – 2005 he was a member of the United Way Distribution Committee. He was also a member of The American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, the National Society of Professional Surveyors, and the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors. In 2021, he was the recipient of the Spirit of Petal Business of the Year Award.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Lena Daniels; his parents, Roger and Mary Flynt; one aunt, Edith Daniels; and one sister, Claudia Holifield.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Flynt; one daughter, Carrie Holeman (Pete); one step-son, Adam Smith (Brandy); one step-daughter, Leah Dane; four grandchildren, Madilyn Holeman, Eden Holeman, Daniel Reagan, and Ellis Smith; and one sister, Judy Hicks (Lonnie).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Petal Children’s Task Force.
