McMurtry back in Hattiesburg Jan. 25


Critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter James McMurtry is returning to the Hub City for a performance at The Thirsty Hippo on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Show begins at 8 p.m. Admission is limited to 18 and over, unless accompanied by a guardian.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the show.

McMurtry is an American rock and folk rock/singer, songwriter, guitarist, bandleader, and occasional actor (and narrator of Ghost Town: 24 Hours in Terlingua).

He performs with veteran bandmates Daren Hess, Cornbread, and Tim Holt.

His father, novelist Larry McMurtry, gave him his first guitar at age seven.

His mother, an English professor, taught him how to play it: "My mother taught me three chords and the rest I just stole as I went along. I learned everything by ear or by watching people."

McMurtry has been working with legendary Los Angeles-based producer Ross Hogarth at Santa Monica's GrooveMasters for his forthcoming album.
