A group of Petal scouts provided new additions to the Petal River Park last week.
Chad Filbey and five other scouts donated two picnic tables to the park, both with wheelchair access.
“I've been working on getting my Eagle Scout for many, many years, and one of the last requirements is to plan and carry out a project to benefit the community,” Filbey said.
A biker and a runner, Filbey said he wanted his contribution to be something outdoors.
“I wanted to do something outdoors that was in my area,” he said. “I love biking and running and heard about the new park. I thought it would be a great way to help out with the new park and serve the community.”
He tossed the idea around with his father, Mark Filbey, for quite a while before committing to a project.
“My grandfather, Jimmy Word, and I prepared the materials, while myself, plus five other scouts, assembled the two handicap accessible picnic tables together,” he said.
“They're great solid tables that will last a very long time and not only look good, but serve everyone in the community,” Filbey added.
