With the recent approval by the Petal Board of Aldermen of the final plat for the Three Mile Ridge subdivision, work on one of Petal’s newest neighborhoods is nearing completion.
The subdivision – which is located at the corner of Corinth and Trussel roads – will offer nine new houses, with three homes already framed in.
“It’s great to see it,” Ward 5 Alderman Tony Ducker said. “Geographically speaking, the town only has X amount of area that we can actually build that many houses, so it’s good to see that area being to put to good use.
“Those types of houses, being new and hitting the price point that it’s going to hit, it’s going to be a really fantastic thing for the city.”
While there isn’t an exact time frame for the completion of the subdivision, work by Fairley Construction of Petal is expected to finish soon.
“If the weather is good, they should be able to throw (the houses) up,” Ducker said. “They’re working like clockwork as we speak … and I think they’ve actually got a roof on two of them.”
Ducker said Three Mile Ridge will fill a need for people looking for houses in the $140,000-$160,000 range.
“There’s a lot of houses being built in Trailwood West, but they’re at a little higher price point,” he said. “So I think this will hit that little mid-section that’s going to make the houses really affordable.
“(A bunch) of folks want to get into town, obviously to tap into the school district and everything.”
Mayor Hal Marx said there are two types of growth desired by city officials – commercial and residential – and he’s glad to see new neighborhoods that complement the city’s growing commercial sector.
“We’ve had a lot of commercial growth over the past several years, and so I’m glad to see that we’re continuing residential growth with new homes being constructed,” he said. “Not only is Fairley Construction doing this subdivision, but they have plans for a larger subdivision … in the city that’s going to be about 83 new homes that they’ll be starting soon.
“So it’s good to see new houses being built that’ll bring in more families, which in turn will encourage more people to open businesses in the city. It all goes hand in hand – commercial growth and residential growth are two things that work together, and we’re happy to see that continuing.”
