Veteran’s Day is quickly approaching, and the Friendly City has a few events planned to celebrate veterans in the Pine Belt.
Petal High School will host its annual Veteran’s Day program on Thursday, Nov. 9.
The Veterans Recognition Ceremony will be held at Petal High School to honor the men, women and their families who have served in the armed forces.
All Military Service Members, Retired and Active, National Guard and Reserve and their guests are invited to a special breakfast in the high school gymnasium followed by a recognition assembly in the Performing Arts Center.
The breakfast is from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
The ceremony will begin in the Performing Arts Center at 9:30 a.m. and will last for about an hour.
The youngest, oldest and longest-serving veterans will be recognized.
Veterans and guests will enjoy performances from members of the Petal HS Show Choir, Band, and Speech and Debate Teams.

Each year the City of Petal honors those in the community who have served in the military with a Veteran’s Day program.
The recreation department is preparing for the 10th program.
Nominations are now being accepted for veterans to be recognized during the program.
Anyone who wishes to nominate someone may pick up a form located at 605 Hillcrest Loop.
The program will begin with lunch around noon on Nov. 10.
The program typically features a guest speaker, performances by the Petal show choir, presentation of the colors by Petal High School’s JROTC students, a special time honoring the veterans selected from the nominations, among other fun surprises.
