Members of Petal High School Showchoir – made up of the all-girl Innovations and the girl-and-boy Soundsations – will put on their best dancing shoes for a performance at the 2019 Petal Showchoir Dinner Theater.
The annual event will be held Friday and Saturday at the Petal High School Gymnasium, with dinner and solo entertainment kicking off the theater at 6 p.m. After dinner, participants will move to the Petal Performing Arts Center adjacent to Petal High School, where members of the Innovations and Soundsations will debut their competition shows.
“The community really comes out for this one, because everybody kind of wants to see what we’ve come up with for the competition show,” said Shanna Luckett, director of choirs at the high school. “The fall is what I like to call our ‘spring training’ to get us ready for this, so this is our big season right now.
“I’m very excited just for the community to see the groups this year, and to see how much we’ve progressed from year to year.”
Although the specific songs that will be performed can’t yet be named, the showchoir will perform numbers they’ve been working on since October. The Innovations will perform with a theme based loosely off the 2018 film “Ocean’s 8,” while the Soundsations will feature a Mother Earth character.
“It’s kind of how to react to Mother Earth,” Luckett said. “So the story kind of revolves around (that).”
The same shows will be performed Friday and Saturday nights.
Tickets can be purchased for $20 for the meal and show, or $10 for just the performances, by emailing shanna.luckett@gmail.com. Proceeds from the event will be used to help fund the showchoir’s trips to Illinois and Tennessee, where they will compete on a national level.
