A Japanese restaurant in Petal has suffered moderate damage after a fire broke out inside the building in the early morning hours of Jan. 14.
Petal Fire Department chief Joe Hendry said firefighters responded just before 3 a.m. to a fire at Yamato Steakhouse at 222 East Central Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames coming from the drive-through window on the west side of the building.
The fire department made entry on the east side of the building; the fire was brought under control quickly and completely extinguished in approximately 20 minutes. Two engines, one ladder truck and a command unit made the initial response.
A total of 12 firefighters responded to the incident.
“(Assistant) chief Sims, Captain Dye and their guys did a great job on this fire,” Hendry said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
