Lamar County School Superintendent Tess Smith said all classrooms should be filled with teachers by the time the doors open for the first day for all schools on Aug. 6.
The three most difficult areas to find instructors are special education, mathematics and science, she said last month.
“We are 100 percent on SPED teachers,” she said after the school district’s Board of Trustees met. “We still have to fill some math positions and a couple of science classes. Everything is falling in place in time for the start of school.”
Smith said she expects 120 new teachers to undergo induction activities into the school system this year. Convocation for all teachers in the Lamar County School District will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 3 at Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg.
