Purvis residents are invited to an upcoming public hearing on the matter of changing a portion of Logaras Circle in Purvis to a one-way street.
The meeting will be held at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 5 at Purvis City Hall, 136 Shelby Speights Dr. in Purvis, where attendees will have a chance to ask questions, voice concerns or give their opinions on the issue.
“It’s a complete circle drive, is what it is,” Mayor Roger Herrin said. “It’d just make it safer for it to be one-way, coming in from the left and the right.
“So it’s just a safety issue. It’s really not that big of a deal; it just needs to be done.”
Logaras Circle, which runs between Old Richburg Road and U.S. 11, turns into a circle about halfway between those roads before straightening out again.
“There’s probably 15 houses on that place,” Herrin said. “And when the mail lady comes and everybody goes to school and all that, they go every which way, and it would just be easier to go one way.
“Plus, it’s not a very wide street. I don’t think anybody will complain about (changing it) – it’s not a very big loop.”
No work would be required to change the street to one-way, other than putting up the appropriate traffic signs.
“Of course, it hasn’t passed yet,” Herrin said. “That’ll be at our February board meeting, so we may do it and we may not. We’re just looking into it and proposing it.”
