Park playground equipment sought

Purvis officials are currently accepting bids to install new playground equipment at the city park off Shelby Speights Drive.

The bids will be received until 5 p.m. Aug. 27 at Purvis City Hall for the installation of two new play units: a Minimo Playground Unit for ages 2-5, and a Maximo Playground Unit for ages 5-12.

“We’re going to upgrade the whole park,” Mayor Roger Herrin said. “We’re going to get rid of all our old stuff and put all new stuff.

“All our stuff is old and outdated and obsolete, so we’re going to spruce it up. We’ve been saving money for about six years for it.”

The Minimo Playground Unit has a use zone of 33 by 36 feet and an occupancy of 42 to 46. The unit features two slides, tunnels, stairs and walkways, and an umbrella for shade.

The Maximo Playground Unit has a use zone of 56 by 45 feet with an occupancy of 60-64. It also features slides, a large tunnel, monkey bars, stairs and shade units.

The Purvis Board of Aldermen will review the bids in the next couple of weeks, and is expected to pick the lowest and best bid at the board’s Sept. 3 meeting.

“And we might have to do it in two or three parts,” Herrin said. “We’re just testing the waters to see what we can get and see what we can’t.

“But we’ve got to upgrade it and make it nice. There’s a lot of people that use the park, and you’ve got to have something for the kids to do.”
