Second graders at Oak Grove Lower Elementary took advantage of the spring weather and winds. The superheroes from Melissa Williamson’s special services class were rewarded with an annual kite flying party for reaching their Accelerated Reader goals. Williamson reported that 15 of 18 students achieved their goals while one student doubled his goal. When asked how he had achieved such an accomplishment, the student replied, “It was easy!”
Students were treated to a kite-flying party on the campus hill, followed by an opportunity to draw with sidewalk chalk and blow bubbles. Mrs. Williamson and Mrs. Hollingsworth, assistant teacher, have provided this AR reward for the past four years.
Although their goal is for students to read for enjoyment and learning, a fun time of flying kites is definitely an added bonus.
