Lumberton adds six to police force

Lumberton Police Chief Carlus Page completed another of his promises last week when he hired six new part-time officers to the department.

The new officers include Zach Rooke, Kenneth Heidelberg, Joszef Scott, Christan Broom, Winston Terrell and Garry Lumpkin.

Page was hired during a special meeting April 10 and outlined his plans later that week. In his introduction as the Lumberton chief, he said he and the Board of Aldermen were working toward hiring more officers.

“We are getting ready to hire a few people here, hopefully in the next week or so,” he said then. “One thing is when we get done with the hiring process and everything goes well with them, we should have new officers on the force.”

Establishing a substation inside the Lumberton city limits that Page spoke about in April has been in use. The substation is located at 956 Myrick, sharing the space with the Pecan Ridge leasing office.

Page has hired eight officers since he became chief in April, bringing the force up to 17 for Lumberton.
