A fourth individual was arrested last Wednesday in connection with the murder of 44-year-old Tomaka Jones of Hattiesburg.
The suspect, a 17-year-old male juvenile from Hattiesburg, was charged with capital murder and aggravated assault.
He joins three other suspects, who were arrested the day before including 21-year-old Tykevious Durr and 31-year-old Andre Snell, who were also charged with capital murder and aggravated assault. Durr’s mother (and Snell’s girlfriend), 41-year-old Konswaylo Durr, was charged with hindering prosecution.
Jones’ body was found on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at a residence in the 200-block of Oak Street.
The investigation is still ongoing, and other arrests may be pending.
Police investigate shooting
Just two days after Tomaka Jones was murdered, Hattiesburg Police responded to a report of a shooting just around the corner from the murder scene – this time in the 1100 block of East Hardy Street.
When officers arrived just after 8:30 p.m., they discovered a male victim suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
He was transported from the scene to a local hospital. The victim stated the incident occurred earlier at another location, on McInnis Avenue, and he walked to the 1100 block of East Hardy Street.
