Downtown Hattiesburg held its 2018 Fall Art Walk on Saturday, Oct. 27. New this year, a special “trick or treat in the streets” brought families and residents of all ages to enjoy the event and visiting downtown merchants for a sweet treat.
More than 25 art vendors lined the streets of downtown, and live music was provided by Zach Koch, The Williams Brothers, Hub City Guitar Duo, and Cole Hill.
The Hattiesburg Arts Council set up a Smart Space activity area in the Kidz Zone, which included painting centers, sidewalk chalk, hula hooping, and bubbles. Southern Miss Architecture Department held a special exhibit in their downtown studio and both Kress Gallery and Oddfellows Gallery also featured artists during the event.
Downtown Hattiesburg Association focuses on a mission of revitalization and historic preservation of the downtown district, making it the vibrant and creative center of Hattiesburg. Since its founding in 1985, DHA, a Mississippi Main Street program, has spearheaded the revitalization of Hattiesburg’s historic core through partnerships to focus its growth and development on the Main Street Four Point Approach of the National Main Street Center: Organization, Design, Promotion, and Economic Vitality.
The association promotes, markets and educates investors, developers, entrepreneurs, businesses, shoppers, visitors and residents that downtown Hattiesburg is a destination – a place to live, work, and play.
