The 20th Star Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host the third annual “If Tombstones Could Talk” tour at Oaklawn Cemetery on Hardy Street on March 29.
Tours run from 2-3:30 p.m. and begin each half hour. In case of rain, the tours will be moved to the following Sunday, April 5.
The tours feature local actors portraying 10 area personalities in period dress. The actors tell the personality’s life and influence on Hattiesburg and the surrounding area.
Among the featured personalities is Hattiesburg’s first mayor, Oliver Hazard Perry Jones, who will be portrayed by current Mayor Toby Barker; a seven-time Mississippi Senior Amateur Champion golfer, Sam Hall, who still holds the distinction of being the only Hattiesburg High athlete to letter in all offered sports; and Carrie Cochran Askew, a woman responsible for getting the 19th Amendment ratified in the state, who will be portrayed by Hattiesburg City Councilwoman Mary Dryden.
Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $5 for students.
