Sumrall FFA officers work State Fair

On Oct. 7, during their fall break, Sumrall FFA officers volunteered to work the Mississippi FFA Children's Barnyard at the Mississippi State Fair. Sumrall worked the evening shift and closed the barnyard for the night.

The officers provided animal husbandry and management techniques throughout the evening in caring for the animals, which included feeding and watering the animals. The animal habitats were kept in order to insure that the barnyard remained nice and clean.

Another main focus was to assist visitors of the barnyard in an understanding of the many different roles agriculture plays in the world today.

The FFA members assisted children visiting the barn in the proper way of handling the goats, chicks, ducks, and other animals.

The FFA members helped provide a  fun way for children to get involved with animals and learn many new things about agriculture.
