Miss Mississippi Mary Margaret Hyer of Oak Grove was honored Sunday at the Hattiesburg Train Depot with a Welcome Home reception. Guests included elected and pageant officials, family, friends fellow title holders and Magnolia Princesses.
Rep. Kent McCarty presented Hyer with a proclamation from the Mississippi House of Representatives while Mayor Toby Barker gave her a Certificate of Recognition from the city.
With Hyer’s win, Hattiesburg became the city with the most Miss Mississippi title holders. Former winners in attendance included Chalie Ray and Glenda Grubbs. A variety of refreshments were served and titleholders signed autographs. Hyer will represent the state at the Miss America Pageant set for Dec. 19 in Connecticut. NBC will broadcast the pageant.
