A hole in one or thereabout could sink $20,000 into your pocket. The Association for the Rights of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities (ARC) is teeing up for its 14th annual Golf Ball Drop Nov. 5 at Canebrake Golf Cub.
Supporters simply purchase a golf ball for $100. On Nov. 5, the golf balls will be placed into a container and dropped from a helicopter hovering about 90 feet above a hole at Canebrake Golf Course. The ball that either goes in the hole or comes closest to it wins its owner $20,000. The rest of the proceeds go to support the ARC and its many different programs.
Only 1,000 golf balls are sold each year, and are available until they run out or until the date of the event.
The ARC is a non-profit organization that serves Southeast Mississippi. This organization provides unique support for individuals with mental challenges and their families. Located on Bonhomie Road in Hattiesburg, ARC offers many different programs throughout the week and is open year-round.
These programs seek to promote the acceptance of mentally disabled individuals by interaction with people in the community.
“We host dances and rodeos, and have programs that enable our clients to simply hang out with their friends,” said ARC Director Cindy Pennington. They also have a show choir.
