Voters will head to the polls June 5 for a primary election to determine Republican and Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate and four U.S. House of Representatives districts.
Incumbent Sen. Roger Wicker, who was elected in 2007, will face off against Richard Warren Boyanton in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate. Boyanton is a veteran of the Vietnam War and owner of Scott Fence Company and Boyanton Industries.
Six Democratic candidates will be on the primary ballot for U.S. Senate: David Baria, Jensen Bohren, Jerone Garland, Victor G. Maurice Jr., Omeria Scott and Howard Sherman.
Incumbent Rep. Steven Palazzo, who was elected in 2011, will square off against challenger E. Brian Rose in the Republican primary for U.S. House of Representatives 4th Congressional District. Rose is a military veteran who worked as a Viz Lab specialist in the Naval Oceanographic Office.
Democrat Jeramey Anderson will run unopposed in the Democratic primary for U.S. House of Representatives 4th Congressional District.
Incumbent Rep. Trent Kelly will run unopposed in the Republican primary for U.S. House of Representatives 1st Congressional District. Kelly won the seat in a special election in June 2015. Randy Mack Wadkins will run unopposed in the Democratic primary for the position.
Incumbent Sen. Bennie Thompson will run unopposed in the Democratic primary for U.S. House of Representatives 2nd Congressional District. Thompson, who was elected in 1993, has served as the ranking member of the Committee on Homeland Security since 2011. No Republicans are running for the seat in the primary.
Candidates Sally Doty, Morgan Dunn, Michael Guest, Whit Hughes, Perry Parker and Katherine “Bitzi” Tate will face off in the Republican primary for U.S. House of Representatives 3rd Congressional District. The Democratic primary for the position will feature Michael Aycox and Michael Ted Evans. Republican Gregg Harper, who has held the seat since 2009, announced in January that he will retire from Congress and not run for re-election this year.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. June 5. A runoff will be held June 26 if necessary. The winners of the primary election will advance to the Nov. 6 general election.
