The Hattiesburg Zoo requests the presence of all valiant knights and fair maidens across the land to the third annual Renaissance Festival. Guests will take a step back in time to embark on this medieval adventure from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb 16-17
“The Hattiesburg Zoo is proud to host our Renaissance Festival presented by SOLAR Aftermath and SOLAR Cerroneth. Entertaining families and friends for unique events such as this is a true testament of our fantastic staff and partners,” said Jeremy Cumpton, manager of Education.
The Renaissance Festival offers fun for the whole family. Lords and ladies will enjoy theatrical performances, a knighting ceremony, battle stations, artisan demonstrations and raptor shows featuring Hattiesburg Zoo’s hawks and owls. Fest guests are highly encouraged to dress the part.
In addition to the Safari Grill’s offerings, smoked turkey legs and mead — “the drink of the gods” will be available for purchase. Visitors 21 and over can also partake in a wine-tasting experience for an additional fee of $15. Wine tasting will commence at 1 p.m. each day in the Asbury Discovery Center. There will also be Enchanted Tea Time for all the dignified festivalgoers.
To be officially knighted during the knighting ceremony, children will participate in three groups of skill and folk activities – arts, crafts, and defense. The children’s realm includes candle making, butter making, horseshoe throwing, archery, and the apothecary table. Stockades will be available for visitors who wish to take photos.
Admission is $5, and children under 2 are free. Annual passes apply. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. For more information, call the Hattiesburg Zoo at 601.545.4576 or visit online at HattiesburgZoo.com.
