Believe in Music: Mississippi Music president receives NAMM award

By STAFF REPORTS,

Rosi Johnson, chief executive officer/president of Mississippi Music, Inc. and Mississippi Music Acceptance Corporation in Hattiesburg, was presented with the 2019 Believe in Music Award during the 2019 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California.

The award was to recognize Johnson for her dedication to the music industry, and specifically for her years of dedication to NAMM’s Oral History program.

Since it began in 2000, the NAMM Oral History program has interviewed more than 3,800 people in the music industry in the hopes of capturing and preserving its history.

“Rosi has gone above and beyond to help support this special library collection,” said Dan Del Fiorentino, music historian for NAMM. “Her dedication has been felt in a lasting way as several of those she helped us interview are no longer with us, making those interviews now priceless. I am so very proud to have her support.”

Mississippi Music, Inc. is a four-store, full-line retailer based in Hattiesburg, and established in 1946 by Johnson’s husband, Dex’s parents, Mac and Jim Johnson.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Mississippi. Johnson currently serves as past president of the National Assoc. of School Music Dealers and a past board member of the National Assoc. of Music Merchants. She is a member of the Alliance of Independent Music Merchants, Mississippi Music Educators Assoc., Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Assoc. and the Area Development Partnership of Forrest and Lamar counties.
