Catch The Great Dying, Royal Horses this weekend

Following a three-show run of performances in North Mississippi earlier this week, a Pine Belt-based trio is returning to the Piney Woods this weekend for a special run of performances with The Great Dying from Cleveland,Miss.

Royal Horses featuring Shelby Kemp on vocals and guitar, Daniel Firth on vocals and drums, and Kenny Paul Mann on upright bass guitar (and no vocals), spent the first part of this week playing on the split bill for crowds in Water Valley, Cleveland, and Oxford and Dying featuring Will Griffith will return the favor this weekend with a special Thursday performance at Slowboat Brewery, a Friday evening show at The Thirsty Hippo here in Hattiesburg, and a Saturday night show at The Shed in Ocean Springs.

Griffith, a longtime musician who is touring in support of his new album, ‘Bloody Noses & Roses,’ teamed up on the release with  Matt Patton (Drive-By Truckers) and Bronson Tew, co-owners of Dial Back Sound in Water Valley, MS.

As a production team, Patton & Tew referenced everything from Townes Van Zandt and Blaze Foley to Dead Moon and The Stooges to give the songs the feel of a broken spirit or a set of bloody knuckles.
