The Southern Miss chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity is hosting its 13th annual Chili Cook-Off Saturday and all proceeds will benefit Extra Table to send food to USM’s Eagle Nest Food Pantry.
The fun begins at 12:30 p.m. in The District located on campus and continues throughout the afternoon.
“This event is something near and dear to my heart,” said USM student Josie Gordon. “Feeding hungry neighbors is such a noble cause and competing in the cook-off is a blast I definitely encourage everyone to come out and have a good time.”
Support of Extra Table through the annual chili cook-off is one way the USM and Hattiesburg communities can contribute to the pantry.
“The Chili Cook-off is an amazing event that supports an outstanding organization, Extra Table,” said Alden Bennett, Sigma Phi Epsilon alumni and advisor. “The men of Sigma Phi Epsilon and the entire Greek community at Southern Miss come together every year to cook some chili and give to a great cause. Philanthropy is an important aspect of being a fraternity man, and SigEp does a phenomenal job of helping people who are less fortunate.”
Admission to the Chili Cook-Off is $5 for unlimited servings of chili, a hot dog and a drink. Kids under 12 will receive a free wristband and will be able to enjoy unlimited chili.
Door prizes will be drawn throughout the event and there will be live music and a high-stakes corn hole tournament.
It is not too late to enter the cookoff contest. The entry fee is $50, and sponsorship levels for the event start at $50.
