The Nation's Weather for Thursday, August 17, 2023
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
Severe thunderstorms will be focused around parts of the
Great Lakes region tomorrow as a strong cold front dives
toward the eastern United States. Storms from northeastern
Indiana to northern Lower Michigan and perhaps western New
York will be capable of producing hail, damaging wind gusts
and even tornadoes, including waterspouts that may track
inland. Farther east, a more general thunderstorm risk will
extend southward from New England through coastal portions
of the mid-Atlantic and the Southeast, also including much
of Florida. High pressure behind the front will mean dry
conditions for much of the center of the nation, with the
northern Plains and the Midwest experiencing much cooler
conditions behind the front. Monsoon thunderstorms will
develop in the Intermountain West as heat reaches Montana.
