Hattiesburg Clinic Memory Center, a certified memory screening center for the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, will be offering free, bi-monthly memory screenings throughout 2025 to those who are 45 years of age or older.
A memory screening is a series of questions and/or tasks that take about 20 minutes to complete. The screening can indicate if someone might benefit from a comprehensive medical evaluation. However, it is not intended to diagnose any illness or replace consultation with a qualified health care provider.
The National Institute on Aging estimates 6.7 million Americans aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's today. This number could grow to 13.8 million by 2060 barring the development of medical breakthroughs to prevent, slow or cure Alzheimer’s. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Alzheimer’s typically affects those 60 and older. However, in some cases, signs can appear as early as the mid-40s. This is known as early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Early detection and treatment can help delay memory loss and possibly prolong life.
Screenings will be held from 8:20 – 11:20 a.m. on the following Thursdays throughout 2025: Jan. 23, Mar. 20, May 15, July 24, Sept. 18 and Nov. 13. Space is limited, and sessions fill quickly. Early registration is recommended.
