Singers across the Pine Belt and beyond are invited to audition for a landmark choral event - a special concert performance of the Life, Death, and Resurrection portions of Handel’s “Messiah.” While audiences often hear only the well-known Christmas section during the holiday season, this production will bring to life the dramatic and profoundly moving sections that follow; music that reveals the anguish of sacrifice, the triumph of resurrection, and the transformative message of redemption. Auditions will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. for passionate vocalists of all voice types—Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass.
This is an unusual opportunity for choral singers to take part in extraordinary and seldom-performed portions of one of history’s greatest choral masterworks. Experienced choral singers, community vocalists, church choir members, music educators, and aspiring singers are all encouraged to audition. No preparation needed! Expect vocalization, melody repetition & short sight singing excerpt.
“These powerful movements are rarely performed, and to sing them with professional soloists and orchestra will be unforgettable,” said Jay Dean, who will conduct the performance.
Weekly rehearsals will be held each Thursday evening from 6:30–8:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, January 8, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg. The performance, scheduled for Sunday, March 29, 2026, will feature professional soloists, chamber orchestra, and an innovative immersive concert experience.
