A Purvis woman has had bond set at $250,000 after being charged with murder for fatally shooting a man and assaulting another with a pipe.
An investigator with the Purvis Police Department, who declined to be named because she works with the Metro Task Force, said 17-year-old Lois Ann Hughes was arrested after the incident, which took place around noon May 20 at 4049 Shelby Speights Drive in Purvis.
When police arrived at the scene, they found 41-year-old Duel Vincent Bryant deceased from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, along with the man who was hit with the pipe.
“She has been charged, and she had an initial (court appearance on May 22) and the bond was set for her,” the investigator said. “We have evidence at the lab right now, and the body is being sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy. She is considered an adult.”
HATTIESBURG WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER SHOOTING INCIDENT
A Hub City woman is behind bars after allegedly shooting a man in the 200 block of North 25th Ave. in Hattiesburg.
Ryan Moore, public information officer with the Hattiesburg Police Department, said officers arrived at the scene about 11:30 p.m. May 23 and discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Police then arrested 42-year-old Latisha White at the scene and charged her with one count of domestic violence/aggravated assault and one count of possession of a stolen firearm.
The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his gunshot injury.
It was determined the incident was connected to a domestic-related altercation between White and the male victim.
White was booked into the Forrest County Jail.
FOUR RESIDENTS COME FORWARD FOR QUESTIONING IN ONGOING DEATH INVESTIGATION; DECEASED WAS 28 YEARS OLD
Four local residents have come forward for questioning in connection with the Hattiesburg Police Department’s death investigation regarding a deceased male found Sunday on Franklin Street.
Tedarron Price, Vernelle Jackson and Courtney Roberson have come forward for questioning, and no charges are being filed at this time.
Matthew Bethley, 25, of Hattiesburg, also came forward for questioning.
He had a previous warrant for misdemeanor malicious mischief and was booked into the Forrest County Jail on that warrant.
Police found the dead man, who Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem identified as 28-year-old Rhakim James, in the 1100 block of Franklin Street shortly before 6 a.m. on May 24.
