Two Hattiesburg men have been arrested on charges regarding weapons and drugs after police officers executed a search warrant at a Mamie Street home.
Ryan Moore, public information officer with the Hattiesburg Police Department, said HPD officers and Metro Task Force agents arrived at the 1900 block of Mamie Street at about 4 p.m. Friday, April 24, where they arrested 28-year-old Keith Atkins and 32-year-old Tory Croom.
Atkins and Croom each was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a school or church, possession of a controlled substance (oxycodone) with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a school or church, two counts of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen weapon.
During the search, officers uncovered 30.7 grams of methamphetamine, 20 dosage units of oxycodone, 5.5 dosage units of hydrocodone, 2.1 grams of marijuana and two handguns, one of which was stolen.
Both men were booked into the Forrest County Jail, and additional arrests are pending.
Bond set for Petal woman in sexual misconduct case
A Petal woman has had bond set on three felony counts regarding sexual misconduct with a student at the Mississippi Youth Challenge Academy at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center.
Scott Lees, public information officer with the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office, said 42-year-old Rebekah George was charged with one count of sexual battery and two counts of lustful touching, and had a $25,000 bond set for all three charges.
George turned herself into the sheriff’s department Thursday morning.
She was then booked into the Forrest County Correctional Facility. George is represented by Hattiesburg attorney T. Michael Reed.
Gulfport man arrested in apartment shooting
A Gulfport woman has been arrested and charged with one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling after an incident at Bonhomie Apartments in Hattiesburg.
Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 27 to the apartments in the 1800 block of Country Club Road.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers learned the suspect, 26-year-old Jamika Evans, showed up to an apartment looking for an ex-boyfriend.
A verbal altercation occurred, and a shot was fired at the apartment door. No injuries were reported.
Evans was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Forrest County Jail.
