Two Hattiesburg residents recently were arrested and charged with a total of 11 felony counts of drug- and weapons-related crimes after being pulled over for a routine traffic stop.
Tate Rutland, public information officer with the Hattiesburg Police Department, said 30-year-old Rickey Louis Washington and 32-year-old Cory Frederick Belton were taken into custody by the department’s Special Operations Division at approximately 4 p.m. February 22 in the 2600 block of 7th Street.
Washington was charged with the following:
- One count of a controlled substance: possession of marijuana (more than 30 grams/less than 250 grams);
- One count of a controlled substance: possession of Schedule I-II drug (Dilaudid, amphetamine, .1 gram-less than two grams);
- One count of a controlled substance: possession of Schedule I-II drugs (methamphetamine, Fentanyl, ecstasy more than two-10 grams);
- Three counts of a controlled substance, trafficking;
- One count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon; and
- One count of a controlled substance, enhanced penalty: possession of a firearm at a crime.
Belton was charged with the following:
- One count of a controlled substance: possession of Schedule I-II drug (more than two-10 grams);
- One count of a controlled substance, trafficking;
- One count of a controlled substance: possession of marijuana (more than 30 grams/less than 250 grams).
Washington and Belton were booked into the Forrest County Correctional Facility.
