Soldiers Freedom Outdoors will continue its mission of honoring, respecting, empowering and cherishing all military veterans and active duty service members to “Heal the Hidden Wounds of War” with the second annual Remember & Honor Golf Tournament, designed to raise funds and bring attention to that issue.
This year’s event will be held from noon-5 p.m. May 11 at Timberton Golf Club, 22 Clubhouse Drive in Hattiesburg. Check-in for the event begins at noon, with announcements at 12:30 p.m. and start time set for 1 p.m.
“By rallying together on the greens, we not only honor the sacrifices of our brave soldiers, but also forge a path toward healing and empowerment through the great outdoors,” said Cayla Camp Burns, who serves as a volunteer and member of the volunteer advisory committee for the Mississippi extension of SFO, which is headquartered in Petal. “All of the proceeds for this fundraiser will go towards continuing or mission of ‘Healing the Hidden Wounds of War.’
“More specifically, with the recent acquisition of our newest retreat – Camp Meridale, located in Meridian – the proceeds will help aid with the buildout of those facilities and also provide funding for the no-cost retreats that we host for our service members and veterans.”
Participants for the event must register by April 29 for the event, which will feature a four-person scramble. Registration can be completed online at https://rb.gy/62fsga.
Two packages are available for the tournament, as follows:
- A $600 team package that includes a four-person entry with a golf cart. Soft drinks and water are offered, along with snacks, dinner and four mulligans – one per person. Each team receives 555 entries total, along with four sheets of raffle tickets for various prizes; and
- A $500 team package that includes a four-person entry with a golf cart. Soft drinks and water are offered, along with snacks and dinner.
Additional mulligans and raffle tickets can be purchased at check-in time.
First, second and third place trophies will be awarded, and individual company sponsorships are available.
Main event sponsorships can be purchased for $5,000, while gold sponsors are $1,500 and silver sponsors are $1,000. Dinner sponsorships are $750, beverage cart sponsorships and hole sponsorships are $125.
Sponsorships are due by April 25 and can be mailed to Soldiers Freedom Outdoors, 182 Temple Road in Petal, 39465. For more information, contact Cindy Wittenberg of Soldiers Freedom Outdoors at (601) 596-2406 or via email at cindy@soldiersfreedomoutdoors.org.
“Our mission is to provide a safe place where our veterans can come to, to start the healing process, and we believe that nature and the outdoors can do that,” Wittenberg said in a previous story. “So our fundraisers that we do – because we are a nonprofit – help us to raise funds to provide the different events and retreat weekends for our military, at no charge to them.”
