A student at Forrest County Agricultural High School in Brooklyn has been taken into custody after he was found to be in possession of a firearm on the school campus.
Sherri Marengo, public information officer with the Forrest County Sheriff’s Department, said deputies received a call at approximately 10:30 a.m. December 13, at which point they arrived at the school to gather information. The student with the firearm was arrested without incident and was booked into the Forrest County Juvenile Detention Facility.
The firearm was recovered, also without incident.
Shortly after the issue was resolved, FCAHS officials sent out a text to all families on the school’s message system to inform them that everyone on campus was safe and unharmed.
“I can say that we did recover a gun on campus without injury or incident,” FCAHS superintendent Adam Stone. “Everyone is safe, and is still safe.”
Because the student is a juvenile, his name is not being released.
“This is early in the investigation, and we are working closely with school authorities to determine the details,” Marengo said in the statement.
