Nominations are being sought for the selection of the 2023 Petal School District “Champion of the Year” award.
For the past 19 years, the Petal Education Foundation has recognized a special person, civic club or business who has contributed significantly to the Petal School District. In 2013, the foundation’s board of directors broadened the scope of the award to include Petal alumni and non-alumni, organizations/clubs or non-profit businesses who have contributed significantly to the Petal School District.
The award is given annually at the Petal Panthers homecoming football game. Festivities will be held October 12 and 13, with the annual parade and the presentation ceremony at the Friday night football game.
Nominations in the form of a letter or email with supporting information and listings of involvement activities should be addressed to the Petal Education Foundation Board of Directors, P. O. Box 948, Petal, MS, 39465. Send emails to Christy.hinnant@petalschools.com.
Nominations are due by September 12.
Criteria for the award is as follows:
- Award can be presented to an individual, organization/club, or non-profit business
- Award cannot be given to an active employee of the Petal School District
- Applicant must have contributed significantly to the Petal School District, (contribution does not have to include financial contributions, but may include time and service.)
- Applicant must be involved in the community or have given back to the community
- Applicant must live in the Petal School District.

Nobles, Marcus Ware, James and Kay Fairley, Cosmopolitan Club of Petal, Wayne Ross Commercial Stationery, Ted and Charlene Cannon, Demaris Lee, Nadine Coleman, Anthony McCullum, Jimmy Havard and Brad Eubank.
