James (Jim) Richard McNeill, 80, of Hattiesburg, MS, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, FL.
Jim was born on November 29, 1943, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to the late James Woodrow McNeill and Mildred Richardson McNeill. He grew up in Hattiesburg, MS, and spent most of his life there, deeply connected to the community he loved.
Jim dedicated his career predominantly to sales, spending over 25 years working with Vardaman Buick and Honda. He was known for his professionalism, integrity, and the relationships he built with both colleagues and customers alike. His work ethic and friendly nature made him a respected figure in the business.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sylvia Greene McNeill, with whom he shared many cherished years. He was the proud father of three children: Patrick (and his wife, April), Jason (and his wife, Teresa), and Shannon (and his wife, Adria) McNeill, and the devoted stepfather to Aileen, William (Bill) (and his wife, Brenda), Benjamin (Ben), and Samuel (Sam) (and his wife, Katy) Sokolowski.
A loving grandfather to 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, Jim’s family was the heart of his life. He found immense joy in being surrounded by his loved ones, watching his family grow, and celebrating their achievements.
Jim will be remembered for his kind heart, his dedication to his family, and his enduring presence in Hattiesburg. He had a passion for the University of Southern Mississippi, sports, and building projects around the house. His life reflected the values of loyalty, generosity, and a sense of service to others.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to a service to honor Jim’s life at 19th Ave Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS, on October 12th, at 9:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to the Baptist Health Care Foundation, designated for Cancer Services, at www.baptisthealthcarefoundation.org.
