Robert Hugh Mordica, Sr.(89), of Hattiesburg, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Forrest General Hospital. Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial were held on Wednesday, November 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment is in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mr. Mordica was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and Pearl River Community College. He was a basketball player for both schools and his love for the game continued as he went on to referee high school and college basketball for many years. Mr. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army and in the United States Army National Guard, where he retired after 35+ years. He was very active in the VFW Post 3036 and volunteered for them whenever they needed him. He worked as a Real Estate Broker for over 65 years and owned University Realty, where he continued to work up until his death. Mr. Mordica was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend; he will be missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Von Kyle Mordica; his parents, George and Frances Mordica; 3 brothers; and 6 sisters.
He is survived by his children, Kim Cargill (David) of Hattiesburg, Robert Mordica, Jr. of Hattiesburg, Stacey Farlow (Tony) of Purvis, Nicole Brady of Pascagoula; his grandchildren, Jason Cargill, Justin Cargill, Collin Cargill (Ashley), Danny Bové Mordica, Tatum Farlow, Brady Farlow (Peyton), Holden Brady, and McKennah Boyd (Jackson); his great grandchildren, Mia Cargill, Macayla Cargill, and Addison Cargill; his beloved dog, Cody; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Saturday, November 2 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home Chapel for Sheriff Billy McGee (71), of Hattiesburg, who died Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
Interment is in Dixie Community Cemetery.
Billy served as Forrest County Sheriff for 28 years and was involved in Law Enforcement for 44 years.
He started his Law Enforcement career as Forrest County Constable under Sheriff Gene Walters; at that time he was the youngest elected officer in the State of Mississippi. He was the longest serving Sheriff in Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty June Kupfer and father, Bob McGee and brother, Terry McGee.
He is survived by his wife, Robin McGee of Hattiesburg, MS; one son, Forrest McGee (Sara Beth )of Hattiesburg, MS; two daughters, Meegan Loftin of the Oak Grove Community and Shelby Forge (Ryan) of Columbus, MS; one step-son, Hadden Lyon of Hattiesburg, MS; one step-daughter, Emma Claire Smith (Jack) of Hattiesburg, MS; one sister, Lori Ryals (Craig) of Hattiesburg, MS; one brother, Kenny McGee (Vickie) of Forest, MS and several grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Mike Riels, David Jarrell, Matt Adams, Trey Rudder, David Bassett, and Glen Moore; honorary pallbearer was Chief Charles Bolton.
