Presbyterian Christian had three more players sign football scholarships on Wednesday.
Wide receiver Max McGee signed with Louisiana-Monroe. Defensive linemen Christopher Buckhalter and Damian Gooden stayed local and chose Jones College and Pearl River CC, respectively.
In the fall, fellow teammate Carter Edwards signed with Colorado. All four players were members of the 2021 Pine Belt Sports All-Area Football team.
McGee led PCS in all receiving categories this past season as he posted 30 catches for 543 yards and nine touchdowns. McGee will join his dad Patrick, who was recently named ULM’s Director of Football Operations.
“It’s a family thing,” Max McGee said. “It came out of nowhere. I felt like God’s plan all came together. My dad got a job there. It just worked itself. The head coach coached (my dad) in college. That’ll be a nice little moment between us all.
“I want to play wherever I can get on the field. I’m going as a wide receiver, but I’m not against DB or anything like that.”
For Buckhalter, he chose Jones to stay close to home. This past year Buckhalter put up 58 tackles, 22 TFLs and three fumble recoveries.
“Jones just felt like the right place,” Buckhalter said. “It’s not too far from home. I can come back. Watch the old team and hang out with friends. If I get ever bored at Jones, I can come right down the road to Hattiesburg and hang out.
“I’m going to miss walking out on the field with all of my friends who I’ve been playing with ever since I was a kid.”
Gooden racked up 54 tackles and 22 TFLs, along with four fumble recoveries.
“PCS has helped me a lot,” Gooden said. “It’s helped my grades and my ACT. It’s more like friends and family.”
