The first day of the Mississippi Gridiron Classic did not disappoint.
The first game featured Choctaw County winning a 34-27 shootout over Noxubee County in the Class 3A State Championship, which was followed by Tupelo beating Brandon behind star running back Jaeden Hill in the Class 7A State Championship.
Here's a selection of the top five plays from Day 1.
No. 5: Noxubee County quarterback KaMario Taylor leaps over Choctaw County's defensive line to score a two-point conversion and narrow the score to 34-27 in the fourth quarter of the Class 3A State Championship Game.
No. 4: Tupelo running back Jaeden Hill, who was named the MVP of the Class 7A Championship game, turns a screen pass into a 39-yard touchdown.
No. 3: Tupelo quarterback Noah Gillon scrambles and connects with wide receiver Ashton Blanchard, who makes a leaping catch over two defenders to set up first and goal for the Golden Wave.
No. 2: Choctaw County quarterback KJ Cork finds tight end Chancen Mosley for a 16-yard touchdown. Despite taking a big hit near the end zone, Mosley held on to the ball.
No. 1: Noxubee County quarterback KaMario Taylor scrambles, but as he takes a hit, flips the ball to offensive line Kaden Phillips, allowing for a beloved and rare big-man touchdown.
