Presbyterian Christian has named Richard Chambliss its next football coach.
Chambliss spent the last three years as Columbia’s offensive coordinator where he helped lead the Wildcats reach the 2023 state title game. In that span, Columbia held a 31-8 record with its offense averaging 33.5 points per game.
“We are glad to have Richard Chambliss as our new head football coach,” PCS Athletic Director Drew Mattison told The Pine Belt News. “He has exceeded all the expectations of every coach he has worked for in the past. We are looking forward to seeing where he can take our football program. This is a great hire for our school and can’t wait to get this era started.”
Chambliss replaces Michael Brown, who posted an 8-14 overall record in the last two years. This year, the Bobcats finished 5-6 and were eliminated in the first round of the MAIS Class 6A playoffs. This was also PCS’ final year in the MAIS as the school will transition into the MHSAA’s 3A classification.
Prior to Columbia, Chambliss was the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Jones College from 2018 to 2022. During his tenure he helped the Bobcats win with three South Division Championships.
Chambliss’ first high school job was Perry Central from 2016 to 2018 where was the program’s offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator. Chambliss helped the Bulldogs achieve their first playoff appearance in six years and first 10-win season in a decade.
