The suspect in the recent shooting on West 7th Street in Hattiesburg that left one woman dead has been denied bond.
On April 19, Hattiesburg municipal judge Wes Curry declined to set bond for 42-year-old Julio Cesar Pineda, who is accused of shooting and killing 29-year-old Josie Windham of Hattiesburg. Lin Carter, who serves as 12th Circuit District Attorney for Forrest and Perry counties, said the bond was denied because officials from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a hold on Pineda, making him ineligible for bond.
Pineda, who is from El Salvador, is alleged to have entered the country illegally, necessitating the hold.
The shooting occurred in the early hours of April 17, near an apartment complex in the 2300 block of West 7thStreet. Upon arriving, officials from the Hattiesburg Police Crime Scene Unit found Windham unresponsive on the sidewalk, at which point she was pronounced dead on the scene from a gunshot wound.
Pineda was named as a person of interest later that day before being taken into custody and being charged with one count of murder. He was booked into the Forrest County Correctional Facility.
The shooting was determined to be domestic in nature.
