A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the recent shooting that took place at the Hop-In convenience store on West 7th Street in Hattiesburg.
On August 12, Hattiesburg Police Department officers arrested 24-year-old Tarveze D. “Take Off” McCarty and charged him with one count of shooting into a dwelling/business and one count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
He was booked into the Forrest County Correctional Facility. As of August 13, no bond had been set for McCarty.
The shooting took place at approximately 3 a.m. July 28, while officers were responding to a security check in reference to a large crowd in the 6300 block of U.S. 49. During that time, police heard shots fired nearby from the 2600 block of West 7th Street.
Upon arriving on scene at the Hop-In convenience store, officers made contact with a suspect, who was later identified as 24-year-old LEVI Myers of Hattiesburg. Police later discovered that one vehicle at the store had been hit by a bullet, and one individual had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
Based on preliminary findings, Myers was arrested and charged with one count of shooting into a dwelling/business. He was booked into the Forrest County Correctional Facility.
Myer’s bond was set at $50,000, meaning he would need to pay $5,000 – 50 percent of the bail amount – to be released. According to the website of the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office, he was no longer being held there as of August 13.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and additional arrests and/or charges are pending.
