A Petal man has been arrested in connection to a recent shooting that took place on May Avenue, which damaged several vehicles outside of a residence.
Tate Rutland, who serves as public information officer for the Hattiesburg Police Department, said 18-year-old Christian Whitfield turned himself into police for his involvement in the incident, which occurred on June 26. When officers arrived on the scene in the 200 block of that street, they learned multiple shots had been fired, striking multiple vehicles parked at a residence occupied by several individuals.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, which was determined to be domestic in nature.
Whitfield turned himself in on July 12 and was charged with one count of aggravated assault: use of a deadly weapon; one count of drive-by shooting/bombing; and one count of shooting into a dwelling house. He was booked into the Forrest County Correctional Facility, where he remained incarcerated as of July 23.
Officials expect to release more information regarding the incident as it becomes available.
