A Hattiesburg man will serve 60 years in prison, day for day, after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder in a 2021 double homicide in the Hub City.
On September 21, Judge Bob Helfrich handed down the sentence to 20-year-old Fredrick Tyrese Allen in Forrest County Circuit Court. Allen will be 80 years old when and if he becomes eligible for parole.
According to police records, Allen shot and killed 46-year-old Joseph Lee Thames Jr and 29-year-old Nakieta Lashawn McCarty on December 16, 2021, after an altercation in the 100 block of Apachie Street in Hattiesburg. Allen was taken into custody without incident on January 6, 2022, by officials from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
He was booked into the Forrest County Correctional Facility.
A grand jury indicted Allen and he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. In July, Allen pleaded guilty to the crimes and accepted two charges of second-degree murder.
At the time of the murders, Allen had outstanding charges for aggravated assault and criminal street gang activity.
