While presiding over the state Senate chamber on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 19, Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann collapsed at the podium. He regained consciousness shortly after the fall and was seen being attended to by medical staff.
An hour later, a spokeswoman for Hosemann said, “Lieutenant Governor Hosemann is doing well and in good spirits. He appreciates all of the medical staff and is eager to return to work.”
The Senate quickly recessed after the fall and remained so until 2 p.m.
While there were two ambulances on stand-by at the Capitol, Hosemann was later seen walking to a government vehicle flanked by staff and security. Senate Finance Chairman Josh Harkins posted on social media, “As he walked out of the Capitol a little while ago, he looked at us and said, ‘Hey, that last bill was awful!’ He is doing well, and if I know him he will be trying to come back to the Capitol today.”
