LCSD selling horse barn at OGUEBy HASKEL BURNS,
A horse barn at Oak Grove Upper Elementary school that is no longer being used for its original purpose is being sold to make way for a covered walkway for students and staff at the school.
“They purchased the barn years ago when they had the farm animals and were doing their garden project,” said Tess Smith, superintendent of the Lamar County School District. “That teacher has moved to another school, and they didn’t really have anybody that could pick up (that project), so they kind of backed off of having the animals on campus. So we’re going to change that to a covered walkway there, and still have room to do some of the gardening.”
To that end, the Lamar County Board of Education is accepting Requests for Proposals for the purchase and removal of the barn, which was purchased by the board in 2016. Sealed bids will be received until 2 p.m. Feb. 20 at the superintendent’s office, 424 Martin Luther King Dr. (P.O. Box 609), Purvis, MS, 39475.
Specifications and bid forms can be obtained by calling the superintendent’s office at (601) 794-1030 and referencing Bid Number 19-102. Electronic bids are also accepted at www.centralbidding.com, where RFPs, and reserve auction bids also can be submitted.
