Larry Dolan is ready for a new challenge.
After returning to Forrest County AHS and spending the last three seasons leading the Aggies, Dolan is taking the head coaching job at Greene County.
“This felt like it was a good opportunity for me,” Dolan told The Pine Belt News. “We’ve played Greene County since the late 90s, and they have always had the same kind of kids that we had in Brooklyn. They get after you and play real hard. It’s a great football community.
“Every now and then, they have some special athletes there like they do now. I’m really not jumping ship for more money or more athletes. It was just another challenge.”
Dolan originally spent 14 seasons at FCAHS, leading the Aggies to a state in 2013 and winning 113 games. After stops at Columbia Academy, Pearl River Central, Oak Grove, and D’Iberville before returning to FCAHS in 2022.
Prior to Dolan’s arrival, the Aggies went 4-21 in a three-year span, highlighted by a winless season in 2021.
“When I went back to Forrest County, they were coming off some pretty bad seasons,” Dolan said. “I was asked to come back and try and revive the program. I felt like we did that. We would have loved to have done better.”
Once Dolan arrived, the Aggies went 6-5 for three straight years and reached the second round of the Class 4A playoffs for the last two.
“We finished fourth in the region then third in the second year and second this year,” Dolan said. “We made it to the second round of the playoffs the last two years. We were able to get the program back on its feet again, and we were able to compete in 4A. That goal was accomplished, and there were some other personal reasons that I came back. One was to coach with my son, who was my defensive coordinator. We did that for a couple of years. I just felt like it was time.
“I love that school. That will always be my home. That’s where I graduated from, but sometimes you just know when to go. I had that feeling after the season that maybe I’ve done what I could do here.”
