Wanted: Lumberton City Clerks

Lumberton Mayor Quincy Rogers said he wasn’t too surprised Tuesday morning when he heard that the City Council had placed legal advertisements in The Lamar Times to take applications for city clerk and deputy city clerk.

“The board sometimes want to advertise even while the position is filled,” he said. “We are always looking for the best people for the jobs and this is not at all unusual.”

The Lumberton Board of Aldermen meet the first Tuesday of each month.

The deputy clerk in Lumberton is Latania Grant, while the deputy clerk is Octavia Gray. In addition to the clerk positions, the advertisement also announces an opening for a heavy equipment operator with a commercial driver’s license.

Rogers, who served as an alderman before becoming mayor last year, said the advertisements are not unusual.

“I cannot tell you how many times since I was an aldermen from 2005 until my last term that we advertised for positions that were already filled,” he said. “This is just business as usual.”

Anyone interested in applying for the jobs can obtain an application at  City Hall Water Department, 102 E. Main St., Lumberton 39455.
