Homeschool Days at the Hattiesburg Zoo have been set for March 4, April 1 and May 6 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., which will allow these students early access to the Zoo an hour prior to the public opening, which gives the education team more time work with the participants on their assigned activities. Programming for these three months will focus on Hoofstock. From 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., there will be four activity stations located throughout the zoo, which will each have a unique task for students to work through at their own pace.
At 10 a.m., students, parents and teachers will enjoy an animal encounter at the Giraffe Pavilion. Also, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. a Nature Swap will be held where students can share their unique, nature-based finds and swap their treasures with other participant and with the zoo staff members.
After 10:30 a.m., students and their parents are welcome to enjoy the zoo at their leisure. Participation in Hattiesburg Zoo’s Homeschool Days requires advanced reservations, which can be made at www.hattiesburgzoo.connectngo.com/en/tag/education-program, at a cost of $15
per student and $8 for parents or $10 for students and free for parents with an annual zoo pass. Students and parents with an annual zoo pass will need to bring them to the ticket booth on the day of their participation to receive their discount.
“After a pause during Covid, we brought back this opportunity for our homeschool students and their families in the last quarter of 2024,” said Jeremy Cumpton, Director of Conservation and Education at the Hattiesburg Zoo. “We had great response from families taking advantage of this educational service we offer at the Hattiesburg Zoo and are ready to work with these students introducing new programming this year.”
