Five more Petal players will be advancing their football careers, with two choosing local junior colleges.
Defensive back Amari Butler chose Pearl River CC, while defensive lineman Kelten Mickell is heading to Jones College. In addition, Braxton Goff signed with East Mississippi CC; Trey Smith picked East Central CC, and Jerdarius Young chose Central Georgia Tech. In total, the Panthers had six players sign scholarships, with Mason Clinton signing with Louisiana.
“I think it says a lot about our program (to have six players sign),” Petal coach Allen Glenn said. “I think it says a lot about the direction that we’re going.”
Butler had 18 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries, while Mickell had 43 tackles, 15 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. At linebacker, Smith put up 60 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, six sacks and had a fumble recovery.
Goff, who was a three-year starting center, will be on the offensive line at EMCC, with Young also continuing his career as a lineman.
“We’re excited about that group,” Glenn said. “I’m proud of those guys. They represent Petal the right way. I can’t say enough of how excited I am for them and their families.”
